Mahanoy Plane home damaged by fire
MAHANOY PLANE – A home in this section of Gilberton was damaged by fire late Thursday night.
Firefighters were called to 124 Island Road in Mahanoy Plane at 11:49pm for the reported fire.
Gilberton Fire Marshal Barry Brassington arrived and found smoke pouring from the home and flames escaping from a wooden garage door.
Gilberton’s Continental Fire Company’s Engine 44-15 arrived moments later, shortly followed by Frackville’s Good Will Engine 43-10, and crews began to mount an attack.
As the first hoseline was charged, flames escaped a side window of the garage and crews made entry to knock the fire down.
Crews brought the fire under control quickly, though firefighters remained on scene past 1:30am.
Few further details were available early Friday, as media members and others not fighting the fire were asked by Frackville Police to leave the scene at 12:30am, shortly after the fire was brought under control, citing the incident as “sensitive” and citing safety concerns.
The American Red Cross was requested to the scene to assist the residents.
It is not known if any firefighters or residents were injured.
Assisting Gilberton and Mahanoy Plane firefighters were crews from Shenandoah, Mahanoy City, Englewood, Fountain Springs, Gordon, Ashland, and more.
