Borough man arrested for firing gunshot in home
SHENANDOAH – A Shenandoah man was arrested last night after borough police say he fired a gunshot when police arrived for a welfare check.
Borough police were called to the home around 10:00pm Monday after friends and family of Kennedy Collado-Abreu, 38, became concerned by his irrational behavior and statements.
Patrolmen Adam Sajone and Cody Applegate arrived and knocked on the door multiple times.
At that point, a gunshot was fired.
Collado-Abreu had fired the weapon, police said, and was promptly taken into custody.
No one was hurt.
Officers said that Collado-Abreu had fired the weapon, thinking someone was coming for him, when he heard police at the door.
Three other people — a woman and two children — were in the home when the shot was fired.
Collado-Abreu is facing charges of felony discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure, three misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment, and two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
He was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge David J. Rossi and committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post $100,000 bail.
Officers were assisted by West Mahanoy and Mahanoy City Police.
