Drywall dust prompts fire report downtown

SHENANDOAH – Borough firefighters were called to a home in the downtown section, after a passerby mistook dust from drywall removal as smoke.

Firefighters were called to the area of Turkey Hill, 120 South Main Street, for reports of a house fire just before 3:00pm.

Arriving first responders found the source of the report at 212-214 South Main, two buildings undergoing renovations.

Drywall was being removed in the homes, fire officials said, which created a dust situation, resembling smoke to a passerby.

Firefighters were clear of the scene in short order.

Responding along with Shenandoah firefighters were Shenandoah Ambulance and Shenandoah Police.
