Girardville appoints Long as police chief

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - Newly-appointed Girardville Police Chief Jody Long.

GIRARDVILLE – This borough officially has a police chief for the first time in several years.

Council approved Jody Long as Chief of Police at Wednesday night’s borough council meeting.

Councilman Ed Burns raised the motion to appoint Long, who was most recently the department’s Officer-in-Charge, as chief. The vote to appoint was unanimous.

“Congratulations, Chief Long,” Mayor Michael Zangari said after the vote.

Long has been a patrolman for the department for years, serving two non-consecutive stints as officer-in-charge, succeeding Matt Williams both times.

Since the resignation of Melville Tomeo as police chief in 2016, the borough police department has been led by officers-in-charge, including Long, Williams, and Jason Lex.
