UPDATE: Man with machete threatened children at Catherine and Coal
SHENANDOAH – A man is in custody, accused of threatening a pair of children with a machete Saturday night on the west end.
Borough police were called to North Catherine and West Coal Streets around 9:00pm for reports of “a large fight with weapons.”
Police said arriving officers learned that a male walking in the street pulled out a machete and threatened a pair of playing children in the area before fleeing.
Officers found the man, Nicolas Heriberto Vallecillo-Tejada, 38, a few blocks away with an 18″ machete.
Police officers and state troopers were seen on Coal Street with long guns, with cruisers parked at its intersections with both Catherine and Chestnut Streets.
Vallecillo-Tejada is facing two counts each of the following charges the following Aggravated assault to a child less than 13 years of age, Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Simple assault, Simple assault physical menace, possessing instruments of the crime, recklessly endangering another person, and disorderly conduct.
Assisting Shenandoah Police were Frackville and Mahanoy City Police, as well as the State Police at Frackville.
Vallecillo-Tejada was arraigned by on call Magisterial Judge Christina Hale, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post bail set at $25,000 Straight.
