Hookies block party underway
SHENANDOAH – The Rescue Hook and Ladder Fire Co. block party, a crucial fundraiser for Shenandoah’s all-volunteer fire department, is underway this weekend.
The annual event began Friday alongside the fire company at North Main and East Coal Streets in the borough’s downtown.
Many of the block party’s mainstays are still present this year, including games and, of course, bleenies.
A lights-and-sirens fire truck parade roared through town beginning at 7:30pm, drawing fire companies from as close as Mahanoy City and as far as Jonestown, Lebanon County.
Saturday morning at 9:00am, a horseshoe tournament will be held.
Food sales begin at 1:00pm Saturday and 4:00pm Sunday.
This year, at each food service area, bottles of hand sanitizer are present and signs are posted reminding attendees to follow COVID-19 safety protocols, such as wearing masks and observing social distancing while in lines.
