Unique procession honors Shen. resident as he lived

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - Dozens upon dozens of friends and family joined in a Farewell Ride to honor the memory of Brandon Hancock, Shenandoah, Saturday.

YATESVILLE – Some say he lived more in his 22-year life than some do in an entire lifetime, so it’s fitting that his funeral procession followed in his footsteps.

Brandon Hancock, 22, of Shenandoah passed away July 1 at a hospital in Montour County, from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.

Hancock, a 2017 Shenandoah Valley grad, was an avid off-roader, as evidenced by his social media presence. His cover photo highlighted his orange Can-Am catching air, while his profile picture was him and his beloved vehicle.

Dozens upon dozens of similar vehicles, along with quads, motorcycles and dirt bikes, pick-up trucks and muscle cars, came out Saturday for a procession following his memorial service at Oravitz Funeral Home at Lloyd and Jardin.

The procession, a Farewell Ride for Brandon, began around 11:00am at Oravitz Funeral Home, traveling along Jardin to Centre, then east on Centre to Yatesville Road.

Adding to the unique flare of the procession, there was a designated area for burnouts along the route, marked by a pair of yellow balloons in the area of the Schuylkill Energy Resources plant in Yatesville.

In that designated area, trucks, UTVs, and more laid rubber down, creating monumental smoke clouds.

Following the burnouts, the procession proceeded back through Shenandoah along Centre Street to the Hancock’s property in the village of Brownsville.

According to his obituary, posted to the funeral home’s website, “Brandon was an outgoing, lovable person who enjoyed spending his time with his friends, running heavy equipment, and driving his Can-Am.”

“Brandon’s life will live on through those who will receive the gift of life from his selfless act of donating his organs,” the obituary continued.
