Borough firefighters, with help of neighbors, tackle backyard brush fire
SHENANDOAH – Shenandoah firefighters were called to service Thursday afternoon for reports of an unknown type fire in the area of West Coal and North West Streets today.
The call came around 7:00pm, as neighbors reported smoke and ashes rising from a backyard between West Coal and West Arlington.
Firefighters from the Columbia and Rescue, Hook, and Ladder fire companies were first on the scene, investigating and finding a small brush fire behind 235 West Arlington. Leaves, mulch, and garbage had caught fire.
Neighbors had brought the fire under control with a garden hose, and the incident was held to Columbia’s engine and the “Hookies” telesquirt.
Firefighters raked through the burnt brush and soaked the area with a handline before clearing the scene around 7:30pm.
