Disaster declaration declared for county
POTTSVILLE – Schuylkill County’s Commissioners have approved a declaration of disaster emergency to enable emergency management measures to combat the coronavirus.
According to a media release issued by the county administrator’s office, the declaration provides “authorization for emergency management measures required to reduce the severity of this disaster and to protect the health, safety, and welfare of affected residents in Schuylkill County.”
As of today, no cases were reported in Schuylkill County, though a single case each was reported in three neighboring counties: Luzerne, Lehigh, and Berks.
The county administration “continues to monitor the situation daily.”
County offices remain open, but county commissioners ask the public only to visit if absolutely necessary.
“Members of the public who do not have official business at [county offices] or are visibly sick will be denied admission,” the release says.
