SHENANDOAH – A Weston Place man accused of sexually assaulting a child is free on bail after all but one charge against him was dropped last week.
Edwin Casiano, 48, was released from Schuylkill County Prison on Thursday.
He was originally facing felony aggravated indecent assault, felony corruption of minors, and two counts each of misdemeanor indecent assault and endangering the welfare of children, all filed by West Mahanoy Township Police Chief Matt Williams.
At Thursday’s preliminary hearing, each charge except felony corruption of minors was withdrawn. That charge was waived for Schuylkill County Court.
Casiano’s bail was reduced from $150,000 to 10% of $10,000 bail, which was posted by a relative the same day.
According to the criminal complaint filed by West Mahanoy Township Police Chief Matt Williams, authorities received a tip on Feb. 4 from a school teacher regarding alleged inappropriate contact between Casiano and a child.
The activity had occurred on Dec. 24, in which Casiano is accused of kissing the child, pulling her pants and underwear down and touching her genitals, according to an interview conducted the UPMC Child Advocacy Center in Harrisburg.
Casiano was interviewed by township police on March 12 and told officers he did not recall such an incident happening, but noted that he had been drinking that night.
