GORDON – A longtime Good Friday tradition in northern Schuylkill County carried on once again this year.
Since the 1970’s, Christian faithful have walked in Jesus’ footsteps through Gordon borough.
Jeffrey Nemeth, of Frackville, donned a robe and a crown of thorns and carried a cross barefoot through town, flanked by Roman soldiers and a group of followers.

It began at the Simpson United Methodist Church on Biddle Street, lapping the town via Hobart Street and McKnight Street.
Onlookers lined the streets of the community, taking photos.

The tradition began in the 1970’s when a prior member of the Simpson UMC church planned to do a trek each year for 12 years, one for each apostle. He passed away after ten, and the tradition was picked up and carried on.
This year marked the 48th year of the tradition in Gordon.
