Reflecting on a decade of service to northern Schuylkill Co.
When I launched the Sentinel ten years ago today, I’m not sure I had envisioned even a quarter of what we’ve accomplished.
Quite honestly, in December 2015, I didn’t have much of a vision at all for what the Sentinel was or could be.
I guess that’s to be expected for a high schooler. It certainly wasn’t the only aspect of my life that could be said for, either.
What I did know, though, was what we used to have in our community.
My family had copies of the old Shenandoah Evening Herald laying around and, being a bit of a media nerd, I claimed them and was amazed. The paper was all local.
There was a community focus like I’d never seen before.
I guess, what I had in mind when I launched the Sentinel was that I wanted to emulate what the Herald had once offered our communities north of the mountain.
The challenge, though, was how to execute that vision.
As I found my way and figured it out, I remember folks reaching out to me, saying how the site reminded them of the Herald and those compliments will forever be the ones I cherish most.
The fact that I have the community support that I do, that I have the trust that I do, to tell YOUR stories, words cannot accurately express how much I appreciate it. How much it means to me.
As you could imagine, looking back at ten years, there are a lot of thoughts and feelings that come up, but the one that’s most notable is gratitude. The fact that I’ve been able to serve my hometown for a decade, I’m at a loss for words.
So, to the communities I serve in northern Schuylkill County, the Hazleton area, Mount Carmel area, and more, THANK YOU!!
Without you, there’s no point to this venture. Without you, there is no ShenSentinel.
Here’s to another decade.
