Police: Man draws gun over parking spot
MAHANOY CITY – A Mahanoy Township man is in Schuylkill County Prison after police say he had a woman at gunpoint over a parking spot.
Jose Peguero, 61, of Foundry Row, Mahanoy Township, was arraigned Friday morning on misdemeanor charges of simple assault, reckless endangerment, and possession of an instrument of crime with intent.
According to the criminal complaint filed Friday by Trooper Jordan Mroczka of the State Police at Frackville, officers were called to the 900 block of West Centre Street — Foundry Row — around 10:30pm Thursday.
There, a neighbor overheard Peguero and his son talking outside about a car parked in Peguero’s parking space. The parking spaces, like any public street, are not reserved.
The neighbor came outside and told Peguero the car in the spot was hers.
Peguero and his son then approached the neighbor and began arguing.
During the argument, Peguero pulled a black semi-automatic pistol and aimed it at the neighbor. He began yelling at her, then briefly left.
Moments later, he returned, racked the slide of the pistol, and aimed at the neighbor again.
Three members of her family were standing behind her at the time and were told to get back somewhere safe.
Peguero was arrested and arraigned early Friday before on-call Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer.
He was committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post 10% of $25,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 30 before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker in Shenandoah.
