Culinary incident draws fire response at Penn and Gilbert

Sentinel Staff Reports

SHENANDOAH – Borough firefighters were called for a reported structure fire in the 400 block of West Penn Street Saturday morning, with reports of smoke coming from the window of a home. That smoke, though, was from burned food.

Crews from Shenandoah and Mahanoy City were called around 11am for the reported structure fire.

When firefighters arrived, no fire was found, and the cause of the smoke condition was determined to be food — either sausage patties or burgers — in a pan, which was brought outside.

Firefighters ventilated the structure and were clear of the scene within half an hour.

Shenandoah’s five fire companies, plus Shenandoah Ambulance, responded to the scene.
