POLICE: Mahanoy man threatens to kill girlfriend, cops when picked up on warrant

MAHANOY CITY – A Mahanoy City man is facing charges after police say he threatened to kill both his girlfriend and police officers when he was picked up on a bench warrant Tuesday.

Joseph Feliciano Mejias, 39, of 614 East Mahanoy Street, is facing nine counts of misdemeanor terroristic threats and a count of felony institutional vandalism for the incident.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Mahanoy City Patrolman Derek Weicikosky, the officer spotted Feliciano Meijas on 9th Street around 4pm while on routine patrol. The officer said he knew Feliciano Meijas had a bench warrant for failure to appear and stopped to place him in custody.

Feliciano Meijas, police said, assumed he was being arrested for a domestic dispute with his girlfriend, which officers told him was not the case.

The man, police said, threatened to kill her when he was released from prison multiple times, and then began banging his head on, and kicking, the glass partition in the police patrol car he was placed in.

Feliciano Meijas also threatened to kill Weicikosky multiple times and said “he was going to have someone kill my family multiple times,” Weicikosky wrote.

He also began to kick the rear door, which police said caused the door to separate from the b-pillar of the vehicle.

Feliciano Meijas was arraigned Wednesday morning and committed to Schuylkill County Prison on $25,000 cash bail.

He was released Thursday via a bail bond.

He will appear before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker for a preliminary hearing in Shenandoah on Sept. 28 at noon.
