New Allentown Fire Academy dedicated to Shenandoah native
ALLENTOWN, Lehigh County – This Lehigh Valley city has a new fire academy and emergency operations center, and it was dedicated today in honor of a Shenandoah native who lived a life of service both here and in the valley.
Chris Kiskeravage was born in Shenandoah and served as an assistant fire chief for the City of Allentown Bureau of Fire and as a longtime fire instructor there for decades.
He assisted in the development of Allentown’s Technical Rescue team and, most recently, was South Whitehall Township’s first full-time fire commissioner.
A 1985 Cardinal Brennan graduate, Kiskeravage taught and trained firefighters around the globe and was loved by many as a leader, teacher, mentor, and more.
Though, his career in emergency services began right here, at the Shenandoah Community Ambulance Association.
He passed away in June.
Thursday, the City of Allentown dedicated the new Allentown Fire Academy in his honor.
“By dedicating this Fire Academy to Captain Kiskeravage, we create a lasting tribute to a man whose dedication and care will always guide our City’s focus on safety and preparedness,” said Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk in a press release.
U.S. Rep. Susan Wild presented his family with an American flag which had been flown over the U.S. Capitol building in his honor.
