Two from Frackville facing charges after shot fired at Jersey shore
WILDWOOD CREST, New Jersey – Two people from Frackville are facing charges after the gun one of them was carrying went off as they were headed into a motel room last week.
Police in Wildwood Crest, a community on Cape May bordering Wildwood proper, said Tuesday that the incident happened around 4pm last Thursday at a motel in town.
Officers were called there for a reported gunshot victim, finding Alexander Wiederhold, 30, of Frackville, with a gunshot wound to the leg.
He was treated at the scene by EMS and taken to Atlantic City Medical Center for further treatment.
Police accused Wiederhold of discharging the firearm, which they say “he was carrying in his waistband, while carrying bags into his motel room.”
The handgun was registered to Sabrina Sweed, 29, of Frackville, and contained a high-capacity magazine and hollow point ammo.
Both high-capacity magazines and hollow point ammunition are legal to own and possess in Pennsylvania.
With Wiederhold at the time the shot was fired, officers said, was a 6-year-old child.
Neither Sweed or Wiederhold have a concealed carry permit, officers said.
Wiederhold is facing charges of endangering the welfare of children, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a high capacity magazine, and possession of hollow point bullets..
He was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional enter upon release from the hospital.
Sweed is facing charges of possession of a high capacity magazine and possession of hollow point bullets and was released on a summons.
