Property owner handles small Heights fire with garden house
SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – The owner of a vacant duplex in this West Mahanoy Township village tackled the bulk of a fire there with a garden hose as firefighters were responding.
Firefighters were called to 227 Pennsylvania Avenue just after 9am for a reported house fire. Police arrived to find flames burning in a window frame.
According to the Schuylkill County Parcel Locator, the vacant duplex was purchased in December by David and Janet Lukashunas, who own the neighboring home.
David Lukashunas tackled much of the fire with a garden hose and firefighters made sure the fire hadn’t spread inside the walls of the home.
He said that, when he purchased the property, he had PPL Electric Utilities disconnect power.
No injuries were reported and crews were clear of the scene within about half an hour.
Responding were firefighters from Shenandoah Heights, Altamont, William Penn, Shenandoah, Ringtown, and Mahanoy City.
