Mahanoy City approves resolution supporting Pumping Station revitalization
MAHANOY CITY – The borough council here formally voiced their support for the revival of the Pumping Station Dam at Tuesday’s meeting.
Borough Council unanimously approved a resolution expressing support for the efforts at the former recreation area between Brandonville and Girard Manor.
“We’re not putting money into it, we’re just supporting them and their efforts,” John Fatula, borough manager said.
Councilman Tom McCabe said the group is seeking formal support from nearby municipalities to assist in seeking grants.
“All we’re doing is sending a letter of support,” McCabe said.
In other business, council approved:
- The second payment installation for the Teen Canteen demolition;
- The Act 57 resolution;
- Moving $26,751 in 2019 Community Development Block Grant and $33,887 in 2020 Streetscape funds to the demolition fund;
- A Multimunicipal resolution, which council said is a cooperative agreement with Mahanoy, Ryan, and Delano Townships looking towards a joint comprehensive plan;
- Two Sewer Authority appointments:
- Eric Brassington to fulfill the term of George Ball, which expires April 30, 2026;
- Thomas Ward with a term expiring April 30, 2028;
- Dumpster Demolition Program funds up to $2,000 to Dan Markiewicz;
- The borough manager attending the annual PASB managers conference June 4-7;
- A fire hydrant replacement from George Link at Linden and Mahanoy for $12,675;
- The addition of Northern Keystone Towing to the borough towing list;
- Retroactively, West End Fire to attend the Girardville St. Patrick’s Parade;
- Good American Fire to host their annual Food Truck and Craft Festival on May 28 with no parking on Mahanoy from 7am to 6pm;
- Additional funds of $10,000 to the Mahanoy City Public Library for sidewalk repairs, paid from the Library fund;
- Approval of two repository sales at 66 South Main and at Main and Route 339;
- Approved five handicapped parking and driveway applications.
