Quick action contains car fire

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - Smoke is seen dissipating after a firefighter doused a vehicle fire with a fire extinguisher at Jardin and Centre Streets on Feb. 10, 2024.
SHENANDOAH – Quick thinking by one of the first volunteers at the scene of a car fire downtown early Saturday kept damage to a minimum.
The fire was reported just before 3am in the area of the Lyric restaurant at West Centre and Jardin Street.
Passersby found the engine compartment of a GMC Denali pickup truck aflame outside the eatery.

A volunteer firefighter who lives nearby was among the first at the scene and extinguished the fire with a small extinguisher before the first engine arrived.
Arriving firefighters from the Phoenix and Rescue Hook and Ladder fire companies opened the hood of the truck and doused any hotspots.
No injuries were reported and West Centre Street was closed for a short time.
State Police at Frackville are investigating.
